Jefferson Fellows Program at the U.S. Department of State
http://www7.nationalacademies.org/fellowships/Jefferson_Science_Fellows.html
Tenured academic scientists and engineers from U.S. institutions of higher learning are eligible for selection to be Jefferson Science Fellows. Each Fellow will spend one year at the U.S. Department of State for an on-site assignment in Washington, D.C. that may also involve extended stays at U.S. foreign embassies and/or missions. All JSF assignments will be designed in consultation with regional and/or functional bureaus within the U.S. Department of State. While in general JSF assignments will involve providing up-to-date expertise in the rapidly advancing STE arenas that routinely impact the policy decisions encountered by the U.S. Department of State, each Fellow will also be expected to become conversant with the functional operation of the U.S. Department of State. In doing so, the JSF program complements and enhances the existing efforts by both the continuing employees within the U.S. Department of State and other temporary fellows supported by non-governmental organizations who address STE issues. Following the fellowship year, the Jefferson Science Fellow will return to his/her academic career, but will remain available to the U.S. government as an experienced consultant for short-term projects over the following five years.

Michigan State University Foundation
Grants Programs
http://www.msufoundation.msu.edu/grants.htm
(1) The Strategic Partnership program concentrates on major grants ranging from $500,000 to more than $1 million into key areas of research growth. They are used to leverage matching support from other sources, to provide seed funding for the development of new knowledge, and to initiate new centers of excellence at Michigan State University. These grants are treated as investments in the future development of MSU as one of the nation’s leading research universities. Projects are funded based on the following criteria: scope and significance, the potential they have to use grant funds in leveraging additional resources, and the commitment of resources from the sponsoring college and department.
(2) Capacity building grants are directed and administered by the MSU Provost and Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies. It encompasses a broad spectrum of University interests in research, teaching, and outreach. These grants range from $10,000 to $200,000. They are used to leverage other MSU resources to provide required externally funded grant matches and cost-shares, faculty recruitment and laboratory setup packages, and faculty retention packages, in addition to assisting in the limited support of a handful of University centers of excellence.
(3) The Intramural Research Grant program has three areas of focus: (A) Academic Diversity - support of faculty in areas where sufficient extramural support for scholarship and creative endeavors is not readily available (B) New Faculty - support of new research-intensive academic appointed personnel (C) Incubator Grants - support of existing researchers who are developing approaches to new and innovative research efforts with future funding potential. IRGP awards are made competitively using Michigan State University faculty as peer reviewers and range from $3,000 to $75,000.

FastWeb
http://www.fastweb.com/.
If you have access to the world wide web and are willing to fill in the online forms, this service promises a free customized list of financial aid sources. FastWeb is actually a searchable database of more than 400,000 private sector scholarships, fellowships, grants, and loans from more than 3,000 sources for all levels of higher education. First-time visitors have to register (first and last name and a user ID), then complete a profile, including background and fields of study. Registrants then receive a list of all currently relevant funding sources. The registration information is stored and can be used on subsequent visits. The entire sign-up process, and delivery of available funding sources, can be a bit tedious: about five to twenty minutes, depending on the connection speed. Approximately 500 new scholarships are added to the database daily, so registrants can stay current. Provided courtesy of Financial Aid Information Page and Student Services, Inc. created by Mark Kantrowitz and sponsored by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
