The Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc. was established in 1985 for the sole purpose of providing financial assistance to individual working artists of established ability through the generosity of the late Lee Krasner, one of the leading abstract expressionist painters and the widow of Jackson Pollock. The Foundation`s mission is to aid, internationally, those individuals who have worked as professional artists over a significant period of time. Dual criteria for grants are recognizable artistic merit and financial need, whether professional, personal or both.
Applications are accepted from visual artists who are painters, sculptors and artists who work on paper, including printmakers. Grants are intended for a one-year period of time. The Foundation will consider need on the part of an applicant for all legitimate expenditures relating to his or her professional work, personal living and medical expenses. The size and length of the grant is determined by the individual circumstances of the artist. Recent grants have ranged from $1,000 to $30,000.

The Caroline and Erwin Swann Foundation for Caricature and Cartoon is administered by the Library of Congress. The Swann Foundation awards one fellowship annually (with a stipend of $15,000) to assist ongoing scholarly research and writing projects in the field of caricature and cartoon. To be eligible, one must be a candidate for an M.A. or Ph.D. degree in a university in the United States, Canada, or Mexico and working toward the completion of a dissertation or thesis for that degree, or be engaged in postgraduate research within three years of receiving an M.A. or Ph.D. from an institution in one of those countries. Although research must be in the field of caricature and cartoon, there is no limitation regrading the place or time period covered. Since the Foundation encourages research in a variety of academic disciplines, there is no restrictipon upon the university department in which this work is being done, provided the subject pertains to caricature or cartoon art. Urban Glass Visiting Artist Fellowships

UrbanGlass is offering 3 Visiting Artist Fellowships to international artists wishing to work in glass. Two fellowships are offered to emerging artists and 1 fellowship to an established artist. Fellowships are for an 8-week period and include access to all areas of the studio on a scheduled basis, technical support, and materials, as stipulated in the fellowship agreement. The fellowship does not include room and board. In addition, each visiting artist will receive an honorarium up to a maximum of $2,500 for his or her discretionary use. The Emerging Artist Fellowship is designed to provide recent graduates with a bridge between the academic and professional world. The Established Artist Fellowship is offered to working artists with established careers. Both fellowships afford artists the opportunity to develop a new body of work and explore new techniques. Artists will be chosen on the basis of past work and plans for utilizing UrbanGlass facilities. A selection committee of artists, staff, and critics will review applications and notification of selection will be made no later than January 31, 2003. The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts has announced a new three-year program of grants to nonprofit art publications and individual art critics. Called the Andy Warhol Arts Writing Initiative, its self-described aim is to "promote critical discourse that is both rigorous and accessible, foster innovation in arts writing and nurture connections between art and the public." The foundation has committed $3 million to the program, half to be given to art publications and half to art critics. The assistance to the publications will be designed to increase audiences, stabilize business practices and explore new forms of publishing. The grants to individual writers--expected to run between $3,000 and $50,000--will cover everything from essays and book projects to text-based experiments in new media. The art publications grants will be administered by the Warhol Foundation, while the critic grants will be handled by the Creative Capital Foundation, a New York-based nonprofit devoted to supporting artists. FastWeb is actually a searchable database of more than 400,000 private sector scholarships, fellowships, grants, and loans from more than 3,000 sources for all levels of higher education. First-time visitors have to register (first and last name and a user ID), then complete a profile, including background and fields of study. Registrants then receive a list of all currently relevant funding sources. The registration information is stored and can be used on subsequent visits. The entire sign-up process, and delivery of available funding sources, can be a bit tedious: about five to twenty minutes, depending on the connection speed. Approximately 500 new scholarships are added to the database daily, so registrants can stay current.
